How to Choose the Best Cancer Hat

best cancer hatBefore you select a cancer hat or collection of hats, it is important to know what you want.  The following are some basic guidelines to help you choose the right cancer headwear, keeping in mind your personal style and wardrobe.

Going through cancer treatment is stressful enough, but when you start losing your hair it can become even more traumatic.  No matter how prepared you think you are for this eventuality, it is still can be very difficult – especially for women.

In the past, when women lost their hair due to chemotherapy, the only option was to go out and buy a wig.  But today’s women are getting more creative, and wigs are no longer the only option.

Before you go out and buy just any cancer hat, here is a collection of advice from other women who have experienced hair loss.

Tips for Choosing Cancer hats:

  • When you start shopping for hat, unless you are looking at cancer hats, you will find most of them are designed for warmth, sun protection or dressy occasions.  Your hat needs to cover your whole head, without making you look like a skier, or like you are playing dress-up.
  • Remember, most hats are sized for women with hair, which usually makes them rather large for women with little or no hair.  Be sure the hat you choose fits snugly on your head.
  • If you are looking to cover your entire hairline, it may be difficult to do this with a normal fashion hat.  Your best bet is to look for chemotherapy hats, which are designed with the cancer patient in mind.
  • Consider your lifestyle too, and where you will be going while wearing your chemotherapy hat.  If you will be staying close to home, then maybe you don’t need an elaborate or tailored hat.
  • Your cancer hat should also be compatible with your wardrobe, and made from natural fibers that breathe (like cotton, linen, silk or wool.)

Cancer hats are designed to be an essential piece of clothing you will wear everyday, rather than an optional accessory.  They need to be comfortable, provide total coverage of the hair line, and look appropriate both indoors and outside.

The most important thing is that you are comfortable wearing the hat in public.  Trust your instincts, and don’t try to talk yourself into a cancer hat that looks good on someone else, but not so great on you.  With a little patience and some imagination, you will find a chemo hat that you look forward to wearing every day.

"I don’t often write appreciation letters to companies but I wanted to tell you how happy I was with your products. The B004 All Around Bangs are perfect. Not only are they attractive summer wear but they are comfortable. I am surprised that when the bangs touch my forehead they are soft – it may seem a small thing but it makes a great deal of difference to me now.

Your service was excellent. The products better than I expected."
